In this 21st print edition, we explore a question that feels especially close to our hearts: how does fiction shape our relationship with nature?

American author Nancy Huston describes humans as a “storytelling species.” For her, telling stories is our way of inhabiting the world. We do more than simply live through experiences, we interpret them, transform them, and pass them on, creating narratives that ultimately shape our lives. Nature is no exception. Before it is explored, it is told, feared, imagined, and idealized.
So we set out to understand: how do these stories take shape, and how far can they take us? Can they help us re-enchant our connection with the living world?

Across 224 pages, this issue journeys through ecofeminist fables, the world of nature writing, an unsolved mystery in Scotland, the magical power of names to open new imaginaries, and an illustrated tale inspired by a legend from the Swiss Alps.
